Panchase (Panchassee)

Panchase (Panchassee)

Just as with many Nepal travel destinations, Panchase (sometimes spelled Panchassee) is a magical & spiritual destination for those wanting to experience Nepal not only for it’s cultural uniqueness, terrain and beauty, but also for own, personal religious quests.

Panchase is actually the name of a mountain (hill), that is located in the Pokhara region of Nepal, with it’s peak at around 2500 meters overlooking Fewa lake and offering splendid views of the 8000+ meter Daulagiri, Annapurna & Manaslu peaks.

The mountain’s name “Panchase”, is a word, the history of which along with the history of the mountain itself and people that inhabited it, dates back to pre-recorded history of Nepal and to ancient Vedic cultures that ventured, lived and meditated here.

Panchase is a compound word meaning “five seats of the divine mother”. “Panch” means “five”, the “as” is from the root word of Asana (the Yoga schools of physical posture) meaning a seat or place and the “e(ee)” represents the female gender. The symbol of five, represents an ancient Yoga system in which a person experiences five levels of existence. Three of these levels are thinking, feeling, and sensing with the Above and Below completing this symbol of manifestation.

Given the mountains name, the ancient Vedics thought of Panchase as one of the ultimate places of meditation.

This Nepal travel destination, is still off the beaten path and offers a very unique experience for those wanting to trek during their travels in Nepal. Still fairly new, it’s a great opportunity to see Nepal with minimal interaction with the throngs of tourists while still being only a days journey from Pokhara.

Trekking usually starts out in Pokhara or after a short bus ride out of town.
